The Grand Faw Port is a strategic project in the far south of Iraq, located on the Faw Peninsula in Basra Governorate, aiming to transform the country into a regional trade center, by linking it to global transportation networks.

The project costs about $4.6 billion and covers an area of 54 square kilometers.

Its capacity is expected to reach 99 million tons per year, making it one of the largest ports in the Arabian Gulf and the tenth largest in the world.

The port is expected to be 19 metres deep, to accommodate the largest commercial vessels.

Since the start of work on the project in April 2010, many important stages have been completed, and in December 2022, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced the progress of work on the project.

In 2024, the concrete wall of the quays will be completed, the piles will be prepared, and work will begin on the container yard, with work proceeding in parallel, with a focus on completing the last five projects simultaneously.

The Grand Faw Port is expected to transform regional and international trade, by connecting Iraq to global transport networks and facilitating the movement of goods between East and West.
