Germans are angry about continued support for Ukraine: Zelensky sees us as a “cash cow”

German citizens have expressed their discontent with what they consider a “drain” on their country’s economy due to the aid Berlin is providing to Ukraine in its war with Russia, coinciding with energy supply shortages and other problems.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement, in which he described Germany as his country’s “most important strategic partner,” sparked a wave of angry reactions among the German public.
Many German citizens saw this description as nothing more than a diplomatic cover for the depletion of German financial resources, as a number of readers of the German newspaper “Die Welt” expressed their deep concern about the deterioration of the German economy in light of declining energy supplies and other problems, demanding that the government reconsider its national priorities.
Comments among Germans varied, with “Eva M” writing that “the phrase ‘strategic partner’ can simply be translated as ‘cash cow’.”

Dirk M summarized the situation by saying: “Putin will not believe this. He has not only brought Ukraine to its knees, but he has also brought Germany to its knees economically. We are on the verge of total collapse: we lack sufficient energy resources, industry is leaving the country, and social migration expenses are ballooning without limits, not to mention financing Kyiv.”
In the same context, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Germany has become the main financier of the war in Ukraine, noting that it occupies a leading position in the militarization of the country.
The Russian-Ukrainian war began on February 24, 2022, and continues to this day. It is the largest conflict in Europe since World War II, with hundreds of thousands of military casualties and tens of thousands of civilian casualties on both sides.
