The Coordination Framework held its regular meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, while stressing the importance of unifying the national position on various issues.
The media department of the Coordination Framework stated in a statement received by Sumaria News, that “the Coordination Framework held its regular meeting No. (195) on Wednesday evening, during which it hosted Masoud Barzani, the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, the latest political and security developments in the region and the world were reviewed.”
She added that “the attendees stressed the importance of unifying the national position towards various issues related to the interest of Iraq. They also stressed the importance of continuing maximum efforts to solve the problem of electing the Speaker of the Council of Representatives and helping the political forces concerned to solve it. The attendees also expressed the necessity of standing up to the challenges that are sweeping the region and the world and fencing Iraq off from them, and cooperating in that.”
Regarding the international coalition, all parties in the meeting agreed on the importance of ending the tasks of the international coalition and changing the form of the relationship to another form of cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests. The attendees expressed their desire to follow up on the pending issues between the federal government and the regional government and contribute to resolving them in accordance with the law and the constitution, according to the statement.
The media office of Masoud Barzani also stated in a statement that at the beginning of the meeting, during his speech, Ammar al-Hakim warmly welcomed President Barzani and described his visit as important and historic. He also referred to the struggle and sacrifices of the Kurds and Shiites, considering this point to be a common denominator for liberation from injustice and dictatorship.
In the same context, Barzani expressed his happiness to visit Baghdad and meet with the Iraqi political parties, and in addition to pointing out the importance of meeting with the parties included in the Coordination Framework, he stressed that the Iraqi political climate is witnessing a breakthrough and openness, and this could be a good opportunity to exchange views on obstacles and ways to address problems.
Barzani also pointed to the common history of the political parties in their struggle against dictatorship, building a new Iraq and drafting the constitution, stressing that the constitution constitutes a solid foundation for all political parties to overcome problems and challenges.
During the meeting, opinions and viewpoints were exchanged in detail on the political situation, the issue of the presence of international coalition forces, oil files, the budget, entitlements, and mechanisms for electing a Speaker of the House of Representatives, and emphasis was placed on supporting and backing the government of Mr. Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, which was formed as a result of the agreement between the political parties and in accordance with constitutional principles, according to the statement.
According to the statement, it was decided during the meeting to establish a joint mechanism between the two sides to continue relations and coordination in order to address outstanding differences as well as on how to deal with new developments and changes that may occur in the future.
