Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers has warned of “disturbing” signs that the United States is losing global influence while other powers are cooperating with each other.

“Deepening relations between the Middle East, Russia and China, which recently mediated a rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, represents a major challenge for the United States,” Summers said during an interview on Bloomberg TV.

Summers continued, “The Washington semi-annual meeting also comes on the heels of a surprise move by Saudi Arabia, Russia and other members of the “OPEC +” group to reduce crude oil production, which complicates the task of the United States, the eurozone and other developed countries that are struggling to curb inflation.

Summers added, “In conjunction with the spring meeting in Washington, which was hosted by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the Brazilian president was visiting China and presenting the strong relations between the two countries.”

Summers continued: “Washington will need to think about how to deal with this new problem.”

Earlier, experts in the Chinese newspaper “Global Times” predicted in their articles that the United States’ attempts to maintain its hegemony would fail, and indicated that there are more and more countries calling for a new world order.
