Former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi confirmed the increasing intensity of the popular and clan opposition in Diyala Governorate against Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Hablousi, indicating that forcing the deputies to resign is a dangerous indication that the leaders of the blocs have taken over the political process.
Allawi said in a televised interview, followed by Al-Maalouma, that “the recent visit to Anbar was a test of the political feeling, and I found a lot of political opposition to the rule of Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi.”
He added, “The precedent of expelling deputies and unilaterally dismissing them and forcing them to submit their resignation is dangerous and calls for standing against it, and indicates the practice of a new dictatorship.”
He pointed out to Allawi that “replacing Al-Halbousi is possible, especially with the presence of a growing political opposition that can put pressure on the partners in the political process to remove him.”
On Sunday, former MP Jamila al-Obeidi accused Speaker of Parliament Muhammad al-Halbousi of working to establish Sunni regions backed by foreign agendas, indicating that working on a line competing with al-Halbousi contributes to stopping the project.
Al-Obaidi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The aspirations of the Speaker of Parliament to lead the Sunni component have become known to all, and it is not hidden from anyone that he is working to establish Sunni regions in any way.”
