Former MP Jassim Muhammad Jaafar confirmed that all the parties in Parliament stand in favor of changing the election law, pointing out that the change depends on the decision of Parliament and does not require the approval of a specific political party, but rather it is a parliamentary decision.
Jaafar told Al-Maalouma, “The change in the election system and law is in place, as the next elections will not be held in the same manner as they were held last year, and Parliament will be the decision-maker to make amendments to the law.”
He added that “amending the election law does not require knowing the approval of a particular party or not, but it is possible to consult with all political parties on this matter, including the Sadrist movement, and despite that, the House of Representatives has the authority to decide to change the law.”
And he indicated that “all parties in the House of Representatives and from the various existing components stand by changing the election law and returning to the one-stop shop instead of the multiple district system.”
