Former MP Kazem Al-Touki called on the incoming government on Monday to review all oil contracts related to the Kurdistan Region, stressing that this issue is one of the most prominent economic and political issues that require urgent attention.

Al-Touki told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the oil contracts in the region were concluded without referring to the federal government, which is contrary to the constitution and applicable laws.”

He added, “The next government is required to put in place clear mechanisms for managing oil wealth in a unified manner, because oil belongs to all Iraqis and it is not permissible to dispose of it outside the legal and constitutional frameworks.”

Al-Touki indicated that “reviewing these contracts will guarantee the rights of the Iraqi people and prevent the squandering of national resources.”
