Former member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Ayoub Al-Rubaie, called on Tuesday for addressing a serious vulnerability in mobile phone SIM cards in Iraq.
Al-Rubaie told Al-Maalouma that “mobile SIM cards have become very important because they are linked to many applications, and if the phone is stolen, the thief can obtain the PUK code through text messages sent by the companies, which represents a major security vulnerability.”
He added that “the solution lies in activating variables through voice communication with customer service in companies, to verify the accuracy of the information with the data registered with them, to ensure that the SIM card belongs to its original owner and not to someone else who has seized it.”
He pointed out that “this vulnerability requires urgent solutions, especially after receiving numerous appeals in the recent period,” explaining that “the PUK code of the SIM card can be used to access many applications associated with it, which makes it necessary to address this problem immediately.”
