Former minister and parliamentarian Wael Abdel Latif revealed, on Wednesday, “exciting” details regarding the audio leaks file, noting that many senior employees have “electronic flies,” while he considered that parliamentary oversight is non-existent.
Abdul Latif said during his interview with the “After Investigation” program broadcast by Al Sumaria TV, “The issue of leaks is related to eavesdropping and is always used by countries of the world to strengthen their role, but to use this against your brothers, colleagues and those around you is shameful and has even reached the families of politicians and that is why they filed complaints.”
He added, “As I heard, Muhammad Juhi wrote a 30-page statement in which he mentioned everything and touched on everyone,” stressing, “We fear that it will be forgotten, just as we forgot the rest.”
Abdul Latif pointed out that “all those wanted have recorded their statements, but the longest statement is that of Mohammed Juhi, and I do not think the judiciary will abandon it because it affected major political figures.”
He pointed out that “it is funny that a person was accused and a recording was recorded of what was attributed to him and he was removed from the Integrity Commission,” wondering “how he was sent to another place with the rank of advisor and this is a mistake attributed to a major figure in the country.”
Abdul Latif added, “The decision has not yet been issued by the Federal Court of Cassation,” adding, “We may be surprised to find Nour Zuhair present on the Iraqi scene.”
He added, “Many senior employees have electronic flies, and the Council of Ministers pays 69 million dinars monthly in salaries for these flies,” considering that “corruption has become institutionalized and began in 2004, and the corrupt are affiliated with political parties and forces, and they are supposed to be held accountable for assigning someone who appears corrupt.”
In addition, Abdul Latif said, “The Integrity Department needs integrity,” considering that “its role is redundant and all integrity offices should be dissolved, as happened with the Inspector General.”
He stressed that “oversight in Iraq is weak and parliamentary oversight is non-existent,” adding that “all laws are prepared by the Council of Ministers.”
The leaked audio recordings of Iraqi officials have sparked widespread controversy in the Iraqi political and media arena, as these leaks began to spread widely, as they included audio recordings of some current and former Iraqi officials talking about sensitive political, economic and security issues.
