Former Iraqi Minister - Zelensky is following in Saddams footstepsShafaq News/ A former Iraqi minister likened the verbal altercation between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, to a similar situation during the era of former regime leader Saddam Hussein, which led to dire consequences for Iraq.

Former Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Hassan al-Janabi, said in a post on Facebook that the scene between Zelensky and Trump reminded him of a similar position by former Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz, when he refused to receive a written message from US President George H.W. Bush, which was presented to him by US Secretary of State James Baker before the Gulf War in 1991.

Al-Janabi added: “Perhaps interacting with that message, whether negatively or positively, could have spared Iraq and the region the catastrophe that befell them.”

He pointed out that James Baker mentioned in his memoirs The Politics of Diplomacy the details of his meetings with Tariq Aziz, and described him with scathing comments, including comparing him to Adolf Hitler’s foreign minister, and accusing him of megalomania, considering that the intransigence of the Iraqi leadership at that time led to tragic results.

In the same context, Al-Janabi believed that Zelensky’s recent adventure and his expulsion from the White House is not in Ukraine’s interest, expecting that the best thing the Ukrainian president could get is political asylum in France.
