The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, on Thursday, that Iraq seeks to invest in the holding of the Arab Summit in Baghdad not only at the organizational level, but also as an opportunity to highlight the positive developments witnessed by the country, enhance joint action in various fields, and attract more Arab investments to develop economic sectors.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Hisham Al-Alawi, said in a statement to the official news agency, followed by Al-Maalouma Agency, that “the meeting of foreign ministers held today is a continuation of the meetings of the delegates, the Economic and Social Council, and the development summit, and is a prelude to the meeting of leaders and heads of state next Saturday.
” Al-Alawi added that “Iraq is keen to ensure the success of the summit in form and content, and seeks to issue decisions that enhance Arab cooperation in the political, security, economic, humanitarian, and cultural fields,” noting that “Iraq has rich experience in promoting regional stability and has provided platforms for dialogue between the countries of the region, and hopes to build on and expand this role.”
He continued, “The Iraqi government is working to attract Arab investments in vital sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, industry, tourism, and the financial sector, in line with its priorities of providing job opportunities and achieving economic growth.”
Al-Alawi stressed the importance of investing the summit in highlighting Baghdad’s cultural and civilizational landmarks, and informing Arab guests of the positive developments witnessed by the capital in recent years, saying, “Baghdad celebrates its guests and seeks to present a true picture of its reality and rich history, within the framework of an Arab summit that is intended to be distinguished and add to Iraq’s diplomatic record.”
