For this reason a parliamentary committee is likely to delay approving the oil and gas lawInformation / special.
Today, Monday, the Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee suggested that the approval of the oil and gas law in parliament would be delayed, and while it revealed the reason for that, it clarified the repercussions of the last meeting.

Committee member Kazem Al-Maghsoub said, in an interview with Al-Maalouma Agency, that “the oil and gas law may delay its approval in Parliament because it contains a political element,” noting that “the law needs consensus from all political blocs before it is passed under the dome of Parliament.” “.

He added, “The last meeting that took place in Baghdad, headed by the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani, and with the participation of the Kurdish delegation represented by the Ministry of Natural Resources in Kurdistan, concluded an important point, which is the formation of a technical committee by the Ministry of Oil and the producing provinces, and the Ministry of Natural Resources in Kurdistan.”

A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee explained, “The task of this committee will be to formulate a new draft of the oil and gas law, or to amend the old draft,” noting that “the committee will study well the differences between Baghdad and Erbil, and discuss the points of disagreement in the paragraphs of the law.”

Al-Maghsoub said, “The tasks of this committee, after completing it and resolving all differences, will be placed before the prime minister and heads of political blocs for agreement.”

Earlier, a member of the House of Representatives, Mudar Al-Karawi, confirmed that the resolution of the draft oil and gas law will be through the system of consensuses between the political blocs on the one hand, and between Baghdad and Erbil on the other.

The oil and gas law is one of the issues that sparked controversy between Erbil and Baghdad for many years, but it was agreed to pass this draft law between the two parties within the framework of a political agreement that led to the formation of the current government.
