Silver prices broke the $100 per ounce barrier on Friday evening, supported by increased investor demand for safe-haven assets, a weak US dollar, and strong industrial demand .
Futures contracts rose 3.87% to $100.10 an ounce, after touching $99.81 earlier .
Prices are on track to achieve weekly gains of around 12%, and increases exceeding 40% since the beginning of the year .
Ole Hansen of Saxo Bank said: “Momentum has become a clear part of the story, with the fear of missing out taking hold as prices are pushed to unprecedented levels. However, it would be wrong to characterize this rally as purely speculative.”
Meanwhile, platinum metal rose 3.3% to $2,561.80 an ounce.
