The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that an Iranian delegation had left for Switzerland to follow up on the implementation of the United States’ “commitments” under the memorandum of understanding.
The ministry stated in a statement that “the first clause is the most important in the memorandum of understanding, and the other party has failed to fulfill its commitment to force Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on America to “speed up the implementation of the memorandum of understanding”.
She added: “We did not sign an agreement that will not be implemented, and our approach is commitment for commitment.”
The ministry explained that “the terms of ending the naval blockade have been implemented and the Strait of Hormuz has been opened in accordance with the memorandum of understanding,” indicating that “the terms of the memorandum of understanding are an integrated set, and if some of them are not implemented, problems will arise.”
This comes at a time when the Central Command of the Khatam al-Anbiya military in Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to the passage of ships and maritime navigation, in response to what it described as the United States’ failure to implement the first clause of the memorandum of understanding regarding ending the war, and the continued violation of the ceasefire by Israel in southern Lebanon.
In contrast, US Vice President JD Vance said there was no evidence that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz, after the Iranian military announced it was closing the strait in response to continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
Vance added in an interview with Fox News that Washington “will give negotiations with Iran a chance, and we are confident in our ability to maintain the ceasefire.”
Meanwhile, Israeli raids continued on various areas of southern and central Lebanon, resulting in the death of 7 people and the injury of 13 others, including children and women, despite the ceasefire agreement between the two sides that was announced yesterday.
