US officials reported on Saturday that five US Air Force refueling aircraft were damaged as a result of an Iranian missile strike targeting Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to US media.
The Wall Street Journal quoted officials as saying: “Five US Air Force refueling aircraft were attacked and damaged while on the ground at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.”
According to the newspaper, the aircraft were “damaged during an Iranian missile strike in recent days,” while one source explained that “the aircraft sustained damage but were not completely destroyed, and are currently being repaired. No deaths were reported as a result of these strikes.”
The newspaper did not specify the model of the aircraft that were damaged.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Thursday that a KS-135 refueling aircraft was lost in western Iraq as a result of an incident with another aircraft, stressing that “the incident was not caused by Iranian action or friendly fire.”
Media outlets reported that two refueling aircraft collided in the air during a refueling operation for fighter jets.
The following day, the US command announced that the six crew members of the crashed aircraft had been killed.
