Concluded Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the United Nations Mission Jeffrey Feltman, on Monday, the two-day visit to Iraq to keep close to the point of view of Iraqi politicians with regard to the internal situation and the events of the region.
The mission said in a statement that “Feltman concluded his visit to participate ceremony was held in the capital Baghdad, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the bombing of the Canal Hotel in 2003, which is considered one of the most devastating attacks in the history of the United Nations.”
Feltman said at the ceremony “10 years ago, killing 22 employees dear colleagues in the mission in a terrible attack still resonates in our hearts,” noting that the United Nations “did not vibrate, and its commitment to Iraq remains strong.”
Feltman said that the period between the bombing of the headquarters of the mission, and the tenth anniversary show that “the country is at a crossroads last, and political leaders have a clear responsibility due to the exploitation of political deadlock terrorists through violence and terrorism, and the undermining of a democratic Iraq.”
Feltman had met with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Parliament Speaker Osama Najafi, Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlaq, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hoshyar Zebari, for talks on the political developments in the country, and the Iraqi view of what is happening in the region.
