Faw Grand Port achieves advanced completion ratesThe Ministry of Transport announced new statistics on Tuesday regarding the progress achieved at the Grand Faw Port. The Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a press statement that, “Under the direct supervision of Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, the Grand Faw Port project has witnessed remarkable progress in its various basic components, with work continuing at a high pace despite the challenges.” He explained that, “The completion rate of the navigation channel has reached approximately 92 percent after removing large quantities of soil, while the completion rate of the container yard has reached approximately 94 percent, and the connecting road has been 100 percent completed.” Al-Fartousi stated that, “The immersed tunnel project is proceeding according to plan, as the installation of the third segment has been successfully completed,” explaining that, “The engineering teams are preparing to begin the installation of the fourth segment in the coming days, after completing all the necessary technical and logistical preparations.”

He explained that “the tunnel consists of 10 sections with a total length of 2,444 meters, of which 1,226 meters are underwater,” noting that “the ministry is working to complete the procedures related to opening the file to operate the Grand Faw Port, and that this file will soon be presented to the Council of Ministers, in preparation for the official announcement and opening the door to competition for 11 leading international companies, which are among the largest companies specialized in operating ports on the international level.”
