Shafaq News/ An informed source reported on Monday that the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Esmail Qaani, conveyed a message to Baghdad, during his quick visit, that his country does not want to be part of the war, and that it does not have reservations about any decision regarding the Iraqi armed factions, while he informed the factions of the necessity of adhering to the decisions of the Iraqi government.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, “The visit of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Ismail Qaani, to Baghdad lasted a few hours, during which he met with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and discussed developments in the region.”
He added, “Qaani confirmed to Al-Sudani that Tehran does not want to be part of the conflict and war, and does not want Baghdad to be part of that either, and he confirmed that Iran has no reservations about any decision regarding the future of the armed factions in Iraq.”
He added, “Qaani also met with the leaders of the armed factions and discussed the developments of the security situation in the region, especially what happened in Syria and its impact on the forces of the axis of resistance. He stressed to the leaders of the armed factions to stand during the current stage behind the Iraqi government and abide by the decisions issued by it.”
It is noteworthy that a source revealed yesterday, Sunday, to Shafaq News Agency, that the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Qaani, arrived in the capital, Baghdad, on a “secret” visit during which he met with a number of leaders of the Iraqi armed factions, and Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.
The source said at the time, “Qaani arrived in Baghdad on an unannounced visit and met individually with some leaders of the factions affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces. He is scheduled to hold an expanded meeting in the coming hours with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the forces of the Coordination Framework, and the head of the Popular Mobilization Forces.”
He explained that “Qaani will discuss during her meetings with Iraqi officials a number of files, including restructuring and legalizing the weapons of armed factions and disengaging some of them. Ways and mechanisms may be adopted to transform some of those factions into political forces or fronts.”
Yesterday, Sunday, the media office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that the latter intends to make an official visit to Iran next Wednesday of this week.
The office explained in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “The visit will include discussing bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance them, in light of what was achieved during the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Baghdad in September of last year, in addition to the developments witnessed in the region.”
Al-Sudani had made several visits to countries in the region after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, including Jordan and Saudi Arabia, where he discussed security issues with the leaders of these countries. Iraq also participated in the Aqaba Conference held in Jordan, with the participation of several countries, including the United States.
