Electricity ships return to Iraq after a 17-year absence.

As part of the government’s accelerated efforts to ensure a supply of electricity through various solutions before the summer season, the Cabinet announced during its regular session yesterday, Tuesday, its approval of a contract with Kar Power to add 650 megawatts of power through the deployment of generating ships.
The decision is a quick, urgent, and temporary measure to address the energy shortage during the peak season. The project involves docking giant ships carrying power plants and connecting the electricity to Iraq’s national grid. This rapid project eliminates the need to build power plants, import fuel, and other processes that require lengthy periods of time.
Hence, the origin of the story of the “electric ships” was investigated, revealing that the company “Karpor” is a Turkish company and the only company in the world involved in this project known as the electric ship fleet.
The company owns approximately 33 ships, generating a total power capacity of 6,000 megawatts, meaning that Iraq will account for approximately 10% of the company’s total production next summer.
But the irony is that the company’s ships will return to Iraq after a 17-year absence, and the even greater irony is that Iraq is the first country in which the company operated its first ship for its project.
In December 2008, Karpowership signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity to operate three power ships with a total capacity of 520 megawatts. The company says that Iraq is the first country in which Karpowership has operated power ships, the first country to request additional power ships, and the first country to extend the terms of its contract after the successful completion of its initial term. Karpowership has provided 15% of Iraq’s total electricity needs.
