Expert Pepe Escobar expressed his confidence that Indonesia’s full membership in the BRICS group has raised concerns in Washington that it will resort to its methods of destabilization and counter this accession. Journalist Escobar told the Novosti Agency: “Now Indonesia has become a full member of BRICS, which terrifies the United States that the most important country in Southeast Asia, a region experiencing rapid economic growth, has become a full member of the group and has the right to vote like the founding members.”
“Indonesia, along with other BRICS members and countries seeking rapprochement with the group, including Turkey, will be a target of US intelligence agencies’ efforts to undermine this alliance,” Escobar added.
He explained: “All of these countries will be the target of destabilization campaigns, attempts to create ‘color revolutions’, and various hybrid attacks, because they pose a threat to the continued dominance of the American empire, especially in the global financial system.”
It is worth noting that the BRICS group is an international governmental alliance founded in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil, and South Africa joined it in 2011.
Since the beginning of 2024, several other countries have joined the group, and Indonesia received the approval of the group’s leaders to join during the summit held in Johannesburg in August 2023, after the country’s presidential elections and the formation of a new government.
