A report by the Hebrew newspaper, The Jerusalem Post, revealed on Saturday that former Israeli minister Ayoub Kara, a member of the Druze community, met with an Iraqi delegation while in Dubai and discussed the issue of Israeli normalization with Iraq, the situation in Syria, the Druze population in the occupied territories, and Syrians through meetings.
The report, translated by Al-Maalomah Agency, stated that “former Israeli minister Ayoub Kara also met in Abu Dhabi with the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin—considered one of the most powerful figures in the Christian world—and asked him to help calm tensions between French President Emmanuel Macron and Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, under the pretext of helping prevent genocide targeting Christian, Druze, and Alawite minorities in Syria.”
He added that “Kara also received an Iraqi delegation, whose members were not disclosed, seeking to strengthen cooperation with Israel,” according to the report. After the meeting, he stated, “Contrary to everyone who objects, and despite the right-wing denunciations, we are successfully communicating with almost all Arab countries, including countries with which we do not have official relations – Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. And here we are meeting with high-level figures to strengthen cooperation with Israel.”
He explained, “The Iron Sword War has benefited us. After 75 years during which the Arab countries hated us, tried to harm us, and deprived us of legitimacy, today we are desired in many places and are seen as a legitimate state. But the most notable development now is the transformation in Iraq. There, the Kurds, Sunnis, and a number of Shiites want a close relationship with Israel. Some of them are even publicly demanding it, not only through secret behind-the-scenes contacts with Israeli representatives. It is surprising, important, and fundamentally indicates a shift in the direction of Israel’s relations with countries that were previously considered its enemies.” He claimed.
Kara claimed that “among the other things the Iraqi delegation asked me to do was support Israel in influencing the United States, and for Israel to mobilize its efforts against Iran to reduce the threat, not only to Israel, but to Iraq as well.”
The report continued, “The unofficial Israeli representative in the UAE received the Iraqi delegation, along with other delegations from the Druze in Syria, minorities in Lebanon, and other unnamed countries. The initiative was launched in cooperation with Americans and Europeans to continue the momentum of the Abraham Accords.”
The report indicated that “although the head of the project is Israeli, its headquarters is located in the UAE, with additional branches in the United States and Romania. Its stated goal is to bring advanced companies and technologies to the Middle East to influence geopolitical processes through the economy. Its less explicit—but more important—goal is to promote political processes and normalization in the region.”
