MP Haider al-Mutairi revealed on Tuesday that Vietnam owes Iraq 45 billion Iraqi dinars, criticizing the government’s inaction in recovering these funds.
In a statement received by the Information Agency, al-Mutairi said, “There are $34 million, equivalent to 45 billion Iraqi dinars, owed to Iraq by Vietnam,” questioning, “Why is the government so apathetic and delaying in collecting Iraq’s outstanding financial dues abroad?”
Al-Mutairi highlighted the stark contradiction between the existence of these frozen funds abroad and the deteriorating state of public services within Iraq, where hospitals are suffering from a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies.
