Vice President of the East Canal Alliance, Kamel Al-Ugaili, confirmed on Monday that Mohsen Al-Mandalawi will continue to head the House of Representatives until the Sunni component agrees on a consensual figure.
Al-Mandalawi said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The acting Speaker of the House of Representatives gave the Sunni forces time to agree on one candidate for the presidency of Parliament,” noting that “the Council will continue its work until the approval of the 2024 budget schedules is completed.”
Al-Ugaili stressed the necessity of “choosing a consensual figure to head Parliament who enjoys the support of the rest of the forces to move forward without any problems.”
Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, refused to present more than one candidate in the third round to elect the Speaker of Parliament.
The session to elect the Council President witnessed clashes and fistfights between members of the Sunni political forces.
