Customs announces the implementation of an electronic lock system at Umm Qasr PortThe General Authority of Customs announced, on Tuesday, the implementation of an electronic lock system to track shipments from Umm Qasr Central. The authority stated in a statement, “In implementation of the directives of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, to implement the electronic lock system to track shipments, starting from the Umm Qasr Central Customs Center, starting July 7, 2025. The system includes goods, medicines, and medical supplies marketed to the dry port and Al-Shaljiya Customs.”

He explained that “this measure aims to facilitate and develop customs work procedures, by adopting electronic tracking technology (GPS) linked to a special electronic circuit, through which goods data are uploaded to the central computer of the Manifests Department at the Umm Qasr Central Customs Center, where all technical and administrative requirements for the marketing process have been completed.”

He also added that “implementing this system represents an important qualitative step toward developing the customs system and enhancing modern control methods. He explained that the electronic lock will contribute to improving performance efficiency, reducing time, combating smuggling, and ensuring the quality of shipments and the smooth flow of their movement in a precise and safe manner.”
