Although more than a year has passed since the historic theft (theft of the century) that took place in the Al-Kadhimi government and the embezzlement of approximately $2.5 billion from tax deposits, by politicians, employees and some banks, the thefts are still continuing due to the lack of implementation of electronic governance that prevents forgery, as well as the release of most of them. Those accused of theft, most notably Haitham Al-Jubouri and Nour Zuhair, are what encourages many corrupt people to seize public money and plunder the country’s wealth under political cover, amid calls to form a higher committee headed by Al-Sawadni in order to control the thefts of tax deposits and hold all those involved accountable without exception.
*Lack of governance
Speaking about this file, Member of the House of Representatives, Jassim Al-Moussawi, demands the implementation of the electronic governance system in order to control tax theft and suspicious transactions, while he stressed that the country’s proceeding in the old classic way has cost the state billions of dollars.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “The matter is not limited to the theft of the century only, but there are many corruption deals that have not been revealed yet,” noting that “the ongoing deals have caused the waste of public money and the weakness of the Iraqi economy.”
He continues, “The failure to implement electronic automation has contributed to the country’s delay in many files and the continued reliance on old systems,” pointing out that “the investigation into the theft of the century has not been closed yet, and many of those involved are being pursued outside Iraq.”
Al-Mousawi continues his speech: “There is a small portion of the employees involved in the theft of the century who have been arrested, and the largest portion has not been overthrown yet,” stressing “the application of the electronic governance system in order to control tax thefts and suspicious transactions.”
*Political money
In addition, political analyst, Haider Al-Moussawi, attributes the reasons for the release of many of those accused of corruption deals from prisons to the interference of political money controlling many aspects of the state, while he stressed that this phenomenon has emboldened the corrupt to carry out many deals.
Al-Moussawi said in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, “Failure to complete the investigation and take all legal measures against the accused has caused the street to lose confidence in the government,” noting that “the royalties and commissions that corrupt people take in exchange for granting projects have reached billions.”
He continues, “The corruption deals that took place in the previous period are not considered simple numbers, but rather the theft of reconstruction funds and others,” pointing out that “it is necessary to issue a decision not to include those accused of corruption thefts in the general amnesty laws.”
During his speech, Al-Moussawi calls for “the Prime Minister to form a committee headed by him in order to end and hold accountable all corruption deals, most notably the deal of the century,” pointing out that “the reasons for the release of many of those accused of corruption deals from prisons are due to the interference of political money controlling many aspects of the state.” “.
The secrets of the theft of tax deposit funds and the individuals involved in them are revealed, day after day, at a time when fingers point to the involvement of officials of the previous government headed by Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and this is what the head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Haider Hanoun, recently confirmed, when he placed red lines around four major figures. Will the government complete what it started in terms of combating corruption, or will foreign agendas and political finances have a different opinion?
