Coordination framework - We are waiting for the agreement of the Sunni blocs to choose the Speaker of Parliament not the decision of the Federal CourtShafaq News/ The leader of the coordination framework, MP Amer Al-Fayez, considered on Sunday that the decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the first session to choose the Speaker of Parliament does not affect the session to elect the president, indicating that the framework is only waiting for the Sunni blocs to agree to choose a new alternative to the president.

Al-Fayez told Shafaq News Agency, “The coordination framework is waiting for the Sunni blocs to reach an agreement regarding choosing an agreed-upon candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, after which the coordination framework will have its say regarding the Sunni component’s candidate.”

He added, “The House of Representatives is not waiting for the Federal Court’s decision regarding setting a new date for the election of the Speaker of the Council,” noting that “the court’s decision has not yet invalidated the first session, but is looking into it.”

He stressed that “the House of Representatives will vote on electing the Speaker of the Council after the Sunni blocs reach an agreement on choosing an agreed-upon candidate for the position of President.”

The Iraqi Council of Representatives held its regular session on January 27, headed by its acting speaker, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, but decided to postpone the first paragraph of its agenda (electing the Speaker of the Council of Representatives) until the lawsuits are resolved by the Federal Court.

The Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority) in Iraq is scheduled to consider four cases related to the last session in which Parliament failed to elect a new president, as well as the legitimacy of some candidates for this position.

On the evening of Saturday, January 13, the House of Representatives held an extraordinary session to choose the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the first round of voting ended with the victory of the “Taqaddum” party, Shaalan Al-Karim, with 152 votes out of 314 votes, followed by Representative Salem Al-Issawi with 97 votes, and Representative Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani. with 48 votes, Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar with 6 votes, and Representative Talal Al-Zubaie with one vote, but verbal altercations took place inside the Council hall, forcing the Council Presidency to adjourn the session.
