Member of the Coordination Framework, Salam Hussein, confirmed that the head of the Progress Party, Mohammed al-Halbousi, lacks a real popular base, pointing out that the people of Babil Governorate’s refusal to receive him and his recent expulsion represent clear evidence of his loss of popular support.
Hussein said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The scenes that al-Halbousi is trying to promote through the media, showing himself surrounded by large crowds, are nothing but paid media propaganda,” indicating that “he obtained parliamentary seats through Gulf and Zionist money, far from the national will.”
Hussein added, “Al-Halbousi has proven over the past years that he does not have a real national project, but rather relied on suspicious deals and Gulf political money to impose himself on the scene, at a time when the masses are aware of the falsity of his alleged popularity.” He indicated that “the repeated crises that the country has experienced during his tenure as head of parliament reveal the extent of his failure to manage the legislative institution and transform it into a tool to serve his personal interests and those of his regional allies.”
He pointed out that “Halbousi is seeking, through funded media, to delude both domestically and internationally that he enjoys broad support. However, facts on the ground, including his expulsion from Babylon, confirm that he is an outcast among the people, who reject his return to the forefront of political decision-making.”
This position comes at a time when popular criticism of the role of foreign political money in influencing the electoral process and attempting to impose figures who lack popular legitimacy on the Iraqi scene is escalating.
