Shafaq News/ The coordination framework that brings together the Shiite political forces warned, today, Sunday, of the transformation of the Iraqi Council of Representatives into an arena for disputes and conflicts, calling on Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani to withdraw in favor of the candidate for the presidency of the Council, Salem Al-Issawi.
The leader of the framework, Hassan Fadaam, told Shafaq News Agency, “After the session to elect the Speaker of Parliament, yesterday, Saturday, Al-Mashhadani had no choice but to withdraw in favor of the candidate Al-Issawi, because even if he became Speaker of Parliament by imposing, pressuring, and coercing the representatives by their bloc, the Parliament will not He will become nothing but an arena for disputes and conflicts for the remainder of his life, and he will not be able to play any legislative or oversight role at all.”
Fadam stressed that “there is no political party, especially within the coordination framework, that wants Mohsen Al-Mandalawi to remain as Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament. Everyone believes that the balance of the political system will be disturbed and the desire for political stability is stronger than the desire for Al-Mandalawi to remain. Therefore, the election of the Speaker of Parliament must be quickly resolved.”
The Iraqi Council of Representatives adjourned the session to elect its president, yesterday evening, Saturday, until further notice, after it failed to hold a “decisive” third round to tip the balance in favor of one of the candidates, Representative Salem Al-Issawi from the Sovereignty Party, and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, who is supported by the Taqadum Party.
The scene did not differ much from the session of January 3, 2024, the scenes that the representatives leaked from today’s session, of verbal altercations and fistfights, which were witnessed and reported five months ago, according to a scenario repeated by the representatives of the Taqadum Party, which is headed by Muhammad Al-Halbousi.
The MPs’ phones documented a verbal altercation and fistfights between MPs from the Progress Party and colleagues from other blocs over the election of a Speaker of Parliament.
