A security source in Anbar province revealed on Sunday that US forces have suddenly halted construction of new buildings inside the Ain al-Assad airbase in western Anbar until further notice.
The source told Al-Maalouma news agency, “US forces stationed at the Ain al-Assad airbase in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district, west of Anbar, have suddenly halted construction of new buildings inside the base and terminated the contract to supply them with construction materials and iron, without providing further details on this step, which coincided with a reduction in the number of international coalition and US forces.”
The source added, “US forces had previously annexed new areas to the base building and carried out construction of new buildings for their forces, in addition to establishing an airport that is currently under construction and reception halls for arrivals to the base building.” He indicated that “US forces informed all Iraqi contractors working in the Ain al-Assad base building that they had terminated their work and considered all their contracts void.”
He explained that “the American forces have concluded contracts with Iraqi contractors to supply them with building materials and iron for the purpose of constructing new buildings for their forces’ dormitories, in addition to halls, recreational areas, shelters, and buildings for various purposes.”
