Shafaq News / The Iraqi Ministry of Communications announced, on Sunday, that the Telegram application in the country has been officially blocked.
The ministry said, in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, that it draws the attention of the users of the information network (Internet) in Iraq, that the blocking of the (Telegram) application came based on the directives of the higher authorities for determinants related to national security, and to preserve the personal data of citizens, which the aforementioned application violated the safety of Dealing with it is against the law.
She added, “The relevant state institutions have repeatedly asked the company concerned with managing the aforementioned application to cooperate in closing the platforms that cause the leakage of the data of the official state institutions and the personal data of citizens, which poses a threat to Iraqi national security and societal peace, but the company did not.” You have not responded to any of these requests.”
“The Ministry of Communications affirms its respect for citizens’ rights to freedom of expression and communication, without prejudice to the security of the state and its institutions, and we express our confidence in citizens’ understanding of this measure,” she stressed.
