The US Central Command (CENTCOM) denied on Friday that Iran fired warning shots at US warships in the Gulf of Oman, asserting that it continues its naval operations in territorial waters while enforcing the embargo imposed on Iran.
The command stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “Iran claims that it fired warning shots at US warships in the Gulf of Oman, forcing the US ships to ‘retreat’ towards the Indian Ocean. This claim is false.”
She emphasized that “Iranian forces did not attack or fire on U.S. Navy ships. To do so would be a flagrant violation of the ceasefire. U.S. forces continue to operate freely in territorial waters while fully enforcing the embargo on Iran.”
Earlier today, the Iranian military announced that it had fired warning missiles at two US destroyers, prompting them to leave the Sea of Oman and head towards the Indian Ocean.
The army said in a statement that the missiles launched were of the “Qadir” type and “Shahid Dana” attack drones belonging to the Iranian navy.
He added that the measure came “as a continuation of the process aimed at countering acts of maritime extortion and the hijacking of commercial ships and oil tankers by the US Navy,” as he described it.
This comes one day after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the redirection of 127 ships in the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the naval blockade against Iran on April 13.
The US House of Representatives passed a resolution on Thursday aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from continuing military operations against Iran without legislative authorization, in a move reflecting the parliamentary effort to limit the White House’s powers in managing the three-month-long conflict.
