On Sunday evening, US President Donald Trump again threatened to target Iran’s Kharg Island.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “Bye Bye Out,” attaching an AI-generated image of explosions on the island and a plane carrying out raids on it.
Trump also wrote that Iran is suffering from hyperinflation and that “the Iranian currency has been wiped out.”
He noted that Iranian oil exports are declining sharply, while oil volumes in the Strait of Hormuz have returned to their previous levels, as he put it.
US forces periodically launch raids on Kharg Island, which is a hub for about 90% of Iranian oil exports.
The latest of these raids was announced by the Iranian Fars News Agency yesterday, Saturday, that an Iranian oil tanker in the island was subjected to an American missile attack.
Kharg Island is located 26 kilometers off the Iranian coast, and about 483 kilometers northwest of the Strait of Hormuz, in waters deep enough to allow oil tankers that are too large to approach the shallow waters of the mainland coast to dock.
