On Sunday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed with US President Donald Trump the developments in the region and their security and political implications, stressing the need to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic solutions to reduce escalation and prevent the conflict from spreading.
Saudi media reported that the Crown Prince stressed during a phone call the importance of making efforts to achieve calm that paves the way for diplomatic solutions, maintaining the security and stability of the region, and preventing it from being drawn into a wider conflict.
In this context, Israel’s Channel 12, citing diplomats, reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi’s agreement to a settlement regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz prompted President Trump to suspend an attack he had planned to carry out against Iran.
The channel added that Qatari mediation is currently underway with Iran to ensure the Revolutionary Guard’s support for understandings regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
There has been no official comment yet from the United States, Iran, or Qatar regarding what the Israeli channel reported.
The Axios website reported early Sunday that the Saudi Crown Prince spoke with the US President on Saturday and expressed his concern about his plans to launch new massive strikes against Iran.
On Sunday, Trump decided to suspend a large-scale and “unprecedented” military operation against Iran in exchange for Tehran’s initiative to conclude a quick deal with Washington to open waterways and end the nuclear issue.
