Biden pardons his brothers and wife minutes before Trumps inaugurationUS President Joe Biden issued a preemptive presidential pardon Monday, January 20, 2025, for his brothers James and Francis, minutes before the end of his term.

The pardon also included his brother James’ wife, Sarah Jones Biden.

On November 8, 2023, Republicans in the US House of Representatives subpoenaed the president’s brother, James Biden, 75, along with the eldest son, Hunter Biden, 54, to investigate “their alleged wrongdoing in connection with the family’s domestic and international business activities.”

After the investigations continued, James Biden’s lawyer said at the time that the summonses were “unjustified,” while Hunter Biden’s lawyer described them as a “political maneuver” based on “disproven allegations.”

James and his wife, Sarah, also reported that an FBI file was being investigated linking her to a 1998 bribery case involving a prominent Mississippi attorney who was considering a business partnership with James Biden.

In early December, President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter Biden, who was facing charges of weapons-related offenses and tax evasion.

“From the day I took office, I made it clear that I would not interfere with the decisions of the Justice Department, and I have kept my word even as I watched my son being selectively and unfairly prosecuted,” Biden said in a statement released by the White House at the time.
