Besmaya station preparation: Oil Ministry announces investment in 25 million cubic feet of gas from the East Baghdad field

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs, Izzat Saber Ismail, announced on Tuesday the completion and operation of a unit for processing associated gas in the East Baghdad/Southern Region field, with a capacity of 25 million standard cubic feet per day (25 million cubic feet per day), as part of the Ministry’s plans to maximize the investment in associated gas and reduce the quantities flared.
Ismail said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Oil that the produced gas is subject to separation and processing operations according to approved technical specifications, before being transported through the pipeline system to supply the Besmaya power station, which contributes to enhancing its supply of national gas and supporting electricity production.
He added that the operation of the unit represents an important step in developing gas investment in the East Baghdad field, and in utilizing the gas resources associated with oil production and converting them into productive energy, stressing that the ministry is working to increase the quantities of gas invested and link production and processing projects to the national gas system and electricity generation stations.
For his part, the Director General of the Central Oil Company, Muhammad Yassin, said that the project comes within the framework of the Ministry of Oil’s plans aimed at reducing gas flaring and maximizing national gas production, and enhancing its role in securing part of the electricity sector’s needs, through the implementation of integrated production, processing and transportation projects.
The East Baghdad/Southern Region field is one of the fields belonging to the Central Oil Company, and its development operations are being carried out in cooperation with the Chinese company EBS, within the plans to increase oil and gas production and optimize the investment of hydrocarbon resources.
