Barhi - The Central Banks standards for bank reform are not unreasonableInformation/Baghdad…
Ahmed Barihi, a member of the board of directors of the Central Bank of Iraq, confirmed on Monday that the standards set by the Central Bank within the banking sector reform program are not strict or impossible, but rather aim to protect the banks associated with it from collapse and guarantee the rights of depositors, as well as taking into account the requirements of international financial relations.

Barhi told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the banking reform standards approved by the Central Bank, especially those related to private banks with financial ties to the bank, came within the context of necessary regulatory procedures, and not harsh procedures as is rumored.”

He added that “a number of private banks have gone through exceptional circumstances that have disrupted their work, which necessitated setting these standards as a precautionary measure to avoid their collapse, and the resulting harm to depositors.”

Barhi noted that “banking reforms are based on a number of important considerations, including preserving the reputation of the Central Bank of Iraq and strengthening its relations with international financial institutions.”

It is worth noting that economic experts described the standards set by the Central Bank for reforming the banking sector as “strict and prohibitive,” given the economic complexities facing Iraqi banks.
