Shafaq News / On Thursday, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, considered that the political system that ruled the country since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime until now has been unable to serve the Iraqis, calling at the same time for a review of the situation and the adoption of reform decisions on their impact and the removal of people and their power from political conflicts.
Saleh said in an article he wrote on the occasion of the end of the year 2020 and published today, that “historical and national responsibility requires serious work to end the cycle of crises afflicting our country, and this requires us to acknowledge that the system of government that was established after 2003 has been subjected to a major crack and cannot serve the citizen.” Which has become deprived of its most important legitimate rights. Therefore, we urgently need a new political contract that establishes a capable, capable and fully sovereign state. ”
He added, “It is not possible for the Iraqi citizen to bear the tax of political conflicts, failures and corruption, to the point of manipulating his daily power,” adding that “this calls for new reviews and reform decisions based on frankness, and based on a basic principle not to involve citizens in political conflicts. Citizens ’food and salaries in Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region, cannot be linked to political conflicts and the scourge of corruption.
Saleh added, “It is also imperative that, in this difficult economic circumstance, there be priority in supporting the poor classes through a package of effective and fast measures, and to continue the war on corruption and the corrupt, as there is no room for favoritism and courtesy at the expense of the country’s sovereignty, imposing law, establishing the state’s reference and confining weapons in its hands. “.
And the President of the Republic continued by saying, “In the new year, fateful entitlements await us, which are the completion of the reform project by preparing for early, fair and fair elections that guarantee the Iraqi voter’s right to choose away from manipulation, fraud, pressure and stealing votes.”
The Central Bank of Iraq had decided to raise the price of selling the dollar to banks and exchange companies to 1460 dinars, from 1182 dinars to the dollar, in order to compensate for the decline in oil revenues caused by the deterioration of oil prices.
Iraq relies on 90% of its income on oil revenues, and the last time it devalued the dinar was in December 2015 when it raised the selling price of the dollar to 1182 dinars, compared to 1166 dinars in the past.
The central bank inaugurated its decision on the new pricing for selling the dollar in the auction for the currency on the 20th of December, and since then, the bank has witnessed a decline in currency sales.
Iraq is under great pressure under the weight of the worst economic crisis it has witnessed since 2003 until now due to the low oil prices and the outbreak of the Corona virus.
