US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barak said on Monday that the momentum behind US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza has made the path to expanding normalization agreements with Israel clearer than ever, despite ongoing challenges in resolving the issue of the Palestinian Hamas movement.
Barak added via the X platform that Iran is politically, economically, and morally exhausted, and that Saudi Arabia is on the verge of officially joining the normalization agreements, with other countries expected to follow soon.
He pointed out that the Levant countries may find themselves unable to resist joining, not under pressure, but out of a sense of prosperity, describing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza as “an exceptional achievement, where peace is beginning to bear fruit and prosperity is taking root between nations that were enemies just days ago.”
Trump stated last Friday that he expected the normalization agreements to be expanded soon, expressing his hope that Saudi Arabia and other countries would join the agreement that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states. He added, “I think when Saudi Arabia joins, everyone will join.”
It’s worth noting that the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain signed normalization agreements with Israel in 2020, becoming the first two Arab countries to recognize Israel in a quarter century, with Morocco and Sudan later following suit.
