Political analyst Qassem Balshan said on Wednesday that US envoy Mark Savaya is trying to put pressure on the leaders of the Coordination Framework to bring in a prime minister who is in line with the American will.
Balshan told Al-Maalomah that “the US envoy to Iraq, Mark Savaya, continues to exert pressure in order to achieve the goals of the US administration regarding the selection of the next prime minister.”
He added that “Safaya is trying to pressure the leaders of the Coordination Framework to choose a prime minister before the Framework makes its decision and presents a figure for this position who may not be in line with the American will and the project that Savaya is leading inside Iraq.”
He explained that “this envoy is seeking to bring in a prime minister who will safeguard American interests and adhere to Trump’s conditions and dictates,” noting that “Safaya has openly threatened Iraq with economic warfare through the US Federal Reserve, which controls Iraqi funds.”
