Baghdad Governor Atwan al-Atwani announced on Tuesday that the capital’s share of the initiative to distribute one million residential plots free of charge to citizens, launched by Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zubaidi, amounts to about 192,000 plots. He confirmed that preparations have begun to meet the necessary requirements for implementing the initiative and to identify a number of sites designated for this purpose. Al-Atwani told the official news agency that “the governorate has begun preparing the requirements for residential lands, in addition to following up on aspects related to the contributors to the initiative,” indicating that “field visits will be conducted to the work sites, and yesterday a visit was made to the Nahrawan area.”
He added that “the initiative aims to contribute to providing suitable housing for citizens, and requires concerted efforts and continuous follow-up to complete its requirements,” noting “the importance of the role of the Iraqi Media Network in conveying information and details related to the initiative to citizens accurately.”
Al-Atwani explained that “the governorate is in contact with the Prime Minister’s office to open an online portal for land applications,” noting that “the application process and its specific criteria will be clarified in the coming days.” He emphasized that “every Iraqi citizen who does not own a residential plot of land will be able to apply through the designated portal, according to the criteria that will be announced.”
