Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and the new US ChargĂ© d’Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, stressed the importance of continuing and developing security cooperation at this stage.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received the new US ChargĂ© d’Affaires, Joshua Harris, Saturday, in Baghdad. The minister congratulated Harris on assuming his new duties, wishing him success in his future work.”
During the meeting, according to the statement, “the importance of good relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to strengthen them in various fields were emphasized.” The statement also said that “the activity of American companies operating in Iraq, particularly recently, was discussed, with the need to create a suitable environment for their work in a way that serves common interests.”
The two sides discussed “the importance of continuing and developing security cooperation at the current and future levels, in addition to discussing financial and oil issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, noting recent understandings reached with American oil companies operating in the region.”
The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, emphasizing the need for cooperation to support stability there and the importance of involving representatives of all Syrian communities in the political process to ensure social stability.
During the meeting, the issue of the stalled negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America was addressed, according to the statement.
