Representative Muhammad Qutayba revealed, on Sunday, an upcoming parliamentary session to discuss the rise in the exchange rates of the dollar.
Qutayba said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “We are following the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar in the Iraqi markets with great concern because of the pressure it causes on the prices of basic materials, especially food, which constitutes an additional burden on the shoulders of millions of poor, simple and displaced people.”
He added, “The rise in the exchange rate of the dollar in a few days is still ambiguous, and we did not receive any government indication that would disclose the reasons,” revealing that “an important session will be held soon in order to host those concerned with the financial file to find out the reasons behind the recent hike in exchange rates and what are the proposed solutions.”
He pointed out, “The need to control the high fever to prevent the worsening of the economic conditions in the country, especially since any rise will push the segments below the poverty line.”
In recent days, the dollar has witnessed a steady rise amid concern that it will lead to strong pressure on the prices of basic commodities in the markets, especially foodstuffs.
