Iranian parliamentarian and member of the National Security Committee, Abolfazl Zohrehvand, sparked widespread controversy on Thursday (July 10, 2025) after claiming that the United States used a tactical nuclear weapon during its recent bombing of Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility during the Iran-Israel war last month.
In an online interview, Zahrvand said: “We assess that the Americans resorted to using this type of weapon, as conventional weapons cannot penetrate 60 meters of rock and reinforced concrete at the Fordow facility, which is located under the mountains.”
Zahravand’s statements come despite the absence of any confirmation from the International Atomic Energy Agency or any body specializing in nuclear weapons affairs.
Neither the United States nor any independent intelligence agency has issued any official comment to support this claim, making the statement widely questionable.
