Former US intelligence officer Scott Ritter has confirmed that the potential entry of the Philippines into the BRICS group poses a major threat to the US position in the Pacific region. Ritter said in an interview on YouTube: “Watch the Philippines… The Philippines will join BRICS. Then the end of the US position in the Pacific will come.”
The expert pointed out that the capital, Manila, will not stand idly by as many of its Southeast Asian neighbors join the BRICS group.
He also pointed out that three of the region’s largest countries are already associated with the group, Indonesia as a full member of the BRICS group, and Malaysia and Thailand as partner countries.
“(Southeast Asia) is another region where the US believes it has a dominant role. But the entry of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand means that BRICS will become the main and most important group there,” he added.
It is worth noting that BRICS is an international group that was established in 2006, and initially included Russia, Brazil, India and China. Then South Africa joined the group in 2011, and at the beginning of 2024, 4 new countries joined it: Egypt, the Emirates, Iran and Ethiopia as full members, while Saudi Arabia enjoys the status of an “invited member.”
