A video of Texas Republican presidential candidate Valentina Gomez burning a copy of the Quran circulated on social media on Tuesday, sparking widespread outrage and criticism.
In the video, Gomez is seen setting fire to the Quran—the Muslim holy book—using a flare gun, while chanting provocative phrases such as, “I will end Islam in Texas. God help me. Muslims commit rape and murder to control Christian countries.”
She also urged viewers to support her politically, saying, “Help me get to Congress so you never have to face Muslim rocks again.”
Gomez is running for the 2026 Republican nomination for Texas’ 31st Congressional District.
The video sparked condemnation from political leaders, religious groups, and social media users, who expressed concern about the rise in hate speech and religious intolerance ahead of the elections.
In December 2024, Gomez staged a controversial demonstration in New York City, shooting an effigy of an immigrant she had erected and calling for immigrants to be publicly hanged if they were accused of committing violent crimes against Americans.
The video was later deleted and her Instagram account was banned.
Gomez did not receive significant electoral support, receiving only 7.4% of the vote in the Republican primary and coming in sixth place.
