The American side postponed any steps regarding the withdrawal of its forces from Iraq, in light of the circumstances witnessed in the region and the escalation taking place by the Zionist entity on various fronts, which prompted Washington to send more reinforcements, forces, heavy weapons and fighter aircraft to the region, in an escalatory step that portends more tension, whether in Iraq or the region in general.
The US administration’s announcement that it will remain in the region and not withdraw its forces from Iraq at the present time, came in line with the statements of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein last month, after he confirmed the postponement of the issue of the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country, at a time when the US Central Command is moving its pawns in the various regions and military bases it controls in the region, as it has sent military reinforcements towards the Ain al-Assad base, which is considered one of the strategic bases to secure the airspace towards the Zionist entity.
This comes at a time when the Pentagon announced that it is not ready to announce specific steps to withdraw US forces from Iraq, as an official in the US Department of Defense stated that “his ministry is aware of the reports that have appeared in the media regarding possible plans to withdraw US forces from Iraq, but they are not yet ready to announce any specific dates at the present time.”
Some media outlets had reported that the United States and Iraq had reached an agreement on the gradual withdrawal of the so-called “international coalition” forces in 2025 and 2026, but the Iraqi Foreign Ministry confirmed in the middle of last month that Baghdad had announced the postponement of the date for announcing the end of the mission of the international coalition led by the United States due to recent developments.
The Pentagon announced the arrival of US Air Force F-22 Raptor fighters to the US Central Command area of responsibility as part of US forces’ deployments in the region and to deal with what it describes as threats. In addition, Washington sent the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln” and an additional fighter squadron and warships to the region in an escalatory move intended to support the Zionist entity in its war against the Palestinian people, Lebanon and some countries in the region.
The head of the Wujoud Movement, Muhammad Abu Sa’ida, confirmed to / Al-Maalouma / that “Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has an American passport and cannot talk to Washington about the presence or continued presence of its forces on Iraqi territory, and therefore he cannot be considered a negotiating figure for the American side,” indicating that “the American side and the Pentagon have confirmed via their English-language website that their forces will not withdraw from Iraq, but there will be a reduction in the Harir base and an increase in the number of fighters and air defenses in the Ain al-Assad base as well as in some Syrian bases.”
This statement is consistent with what the leader of the State of Law Coalition, Sheikh Haider al-Lami, told Al-Maalouma, “The government has moved towards scheduling the exit of the international coalition forces, and these forces are an American creation. As for the exit of American forces from the country, Washington stated through the Pentagon that there were no understandings regarding the exit of its forces from Iraq, before al-Sudani’s visit to Washington about 6 months ago.” He added that “the visit of the Iraqi security delegation that preceded al-Sudani’s arrival to Washington did not discuss in America any file regarding the exit of American forces from Iraq. In addition, the American side confirmed in its response to one of the press questions that it did not talk about any file related to the exit of American forces from Iraq.”
