Shafaq News/ A number of Iraqi political figures announced, on Saturday, the establishment of the “Iraqi National Civil Gathering”, a new electoral gathering bearing the slogan “Justice, equality and non-militarization of society.”
According to Shafaq News Agency correspondent, the gathering aims to promote the values of citizenship and the civil state. The gathering also includes prominent political figures, including Iyad Allawi, Saleh al-Mutlaq, Raed Fahmi, former Minister of Health Jaafar Allawi, Hanaa Edwar and Adnan al-Danbous, in addition to other figures from various political and civil trends .
The leader of the new group, Adnan Al-Danbous, gave a speech in which he announced the launch of this group, which he said was founded based on the efforts of Iyad Allawi and a number of prominent Iraqi figures.
Al-Danbous stressed that all participants in the gathering agreed to choose Iyad Allawi as the head of the gathering, noting that this step came from the deep belief that Iraq deserves a state based on justice and equality.
He added that Iraq had paid a heavy price as a result of wrong policies and sectarian quotas, and that there was no alternative today to a comprehensive national project that would restore Iraq’s stability and strength.
He added that the Iraqi National Assembly aims to achieve the rule of law away from foreign interference, and expresses the national will within the framework of the constitution and the law, in line with the principles of true democracy.
Al-Danbous called on the people of Iraq to stand side by side with this national project to turn it into reality, stressing that the parties under this group have elected Iyad Allawi as the head of this national project.
For his part, the leader of the group, Saleh al-Mutlaq, said in his speech that Iraq was able to be a better country after 2003, if the Iraqi List had been able to form a majority government at that time, far from political and sectarian quotas.
Al-Mutlaq said that Iraq had an opportunity to change the course of the country after the change that occurred, but the situation changed in 2010 when the Iraqiya list was not allowed to form the government.
Al-Mutlaq added: “Today, it is necessary for honorable Iraqis to rally around a real national project that restores Iraq’s position as a state of institutions,” noting that the entire region is going through a major crisis, and that everyone needs one project to build a real state and a strong political system.
Al-Mutlaq pointed out the necessity of avoiding “hatred and sectarianism” in building the state, and working to combat corruption and citizens’ problems, stressing the importance of reforming the system to achieve stability and social justice.
In this context, the founder of the gathering, Iyad Allawi, confirmed that the “Iraqi National Civil Gathering” includes parties, political figures, tribal sheikhs, experts, and activists, and aims to build a state of law and institutions based on justice and equality, respecting human rights, and ensuring equal opportunities.
He added that this group seeks reform and change within the framework of the law and the constitution, and stresses the need to unify efforts to build a strong and stable Iraq away from quotas and foreign interference.
