Alia Nassif comments on the Federal Courts decision regarding the largest parliamentary blocShafaq News/ On Thursday, Representative Alia Nassif described the Federal Court’s decision regarding the largest bloc as “fair”, and that it “resolved the controversy over the most important points related to forming the government,” indicating that this decision made the opportunity available from now to form the largest bloc and submit it to the President of the Republic. The new one to be elected by the Iraqi parliament next week.

Nassif said in a statement today: “The Federal Court today has established a correct mechanism that settled the controversy through its interpretation of Article 70 of the Constitution, and as we previously explained that this article confirms that the election of the President of the Republic requires two-thirds of the members of the House of Representatives.”

She added, “We also thank the just judiciary for drawing the map of the largest bloc, and accordingly, from the date of this decision, there is no larger bloc, and the space will be available to form the largest bloc and submit it in a timely manner to the Speaker of the House of Representatives for administrative auditing only, then approval and the controversy will be resolved by President of the Republic in accordance with Article 76 of the Constitution.

Nassif, one of the two MPs who filed the appeal, continued, by saying: “Therefore, today both blocs are no longer the largest bloc, but it will start forming from now on and submitting it to the President of the Republic.”

And earlier today, the Federal Supreme Court, the highest judicial authority in Iraq, rejected the coordination framework’s lawsuit in its appeal with the largest parliamentary bloc.

A judicial source told Shafaq News Agency, that the Federal Court rejected the lawsuit filed regarding the largest bloc in the Iraqi parliament tasked with forming the next government.

Representatives Alia Nassif and Atwan Al-Atwani from the Coordination Framework had recently filed an appeal against the largest bloc during the first session of the Iraqi Council of Representatives in its current session, which was held by the President of the Age.

The “Coordination Framework” and the “Sadr Bloc” had each submitted a request to the Presidency of the House of Representatives during the first session on December 9, as it is the “largest parliamentary bloc” that will be tasked with forming the next government.
