MP for the State of Law Coalition, Mohammed Al-Ziyadi, confirmed today, Saturday, that talk of a second term for Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is no longer on the table in light of the current political balances.
Al-Ziyadi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma, “The second term is a thing of the past, and whoever deludes Al-Sudani into believing that he can remain for a new term should review his decisions.” He pointed out that “the position of Prime Minister is not linked to the number of seats of the bloc to which the candidate belongs, but rather depends primarily on the consensus within the Coordination Framework.”
He added that “the forces of the Coordination Framework are conducting ongoing understandings and dialogues regarding the upcoming elections and beyond, including the mechanism for selecting the next prime minister,” stressing that “the final decision will be the result of consensus among the components of the framework and not a narrow personal or partisan desire.”
Al-Ziyadi concluded by saying that “the next political equation will be built on internal understandings, which determines the shape of the next government, far from the current speculation.”
