The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan today, Wednesday, defined its position on the recent government meeting regarding the oil and gas law, and while it considered the law “very important”, it indicated that the political dialogues will pave the way for the drafting of a good law.
The leader of the Union, Ahmed Al-Harki, said in an interview with Al-Maloma Agency, that “the meeting that was held today in the presence of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Oil, in addition to a delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources from the Kurdistan Regional Government, comes from among the political meetings.” and artistic task.
He added, “The National Union participated in the meeting through the presence of the party’s leader, Pavel Talabani, and this comes as confirmation of Al-Yakti’s role in drafting this important law that the Iraqi people have been waiting for for more than 18 years.”
The leader of Talabani’s party explained, “The natural gas wealth in the Kurdistan region is located in the areas of influence of the Patriotic Union, and this is important from a logical and realistic point of view, and the Sudanese and members of the State Administration coalition realize the importance of the union having such political dialogues.”
Al-Harki said, “These dialogues pave the way for drafting an important and good law that satisfies all parties,” considering that “the oil and gas law is very important and is part of the government curriculum that was voted on by the Iraqi parliament.”
He continued, “There is a serious will by al-Sudani and the State Administration Coalition to pass the law,” adding, “We hope that the law will crystallize and have a role to establish a stable and important political and economic relationship between Baghdad and the region.”
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani affirmed that the draft oil and gas law is one of the basic and important laws and represents a factor of strength and unity for Iraq, directing the formation of a ministerial committee to supervise technical dialogues regarding the oil and gas law.
The oil and gas law is one of the issues that raised controversy between Erbil and Baghdad for many years, but it was agreed to approve this draft law between the two parties within the framework of a political agreement that led to the formation of the current government.
